Customer's Reviews for Tailless by Erin Quinn

A Great Read
This is a wonderfully complex book both in terms of character and story.

I found the characters engaging, interesting, and deep, which is a must for me in fiction. It also helps tremendously that the characters are not static or cliche. Each of them shows a wide variety of emotions and motivations, all of which change in believable ways as the story progresses. I found that I disliked some of the characters at the end of the story that I had admired at the beginning and vice versa, and I consider this to be an accomplishment. It means that the characters live and breathe.

The story itself is also remarkably complex and alive. It can be read at a number of levels - not the least of which are the story of the main character and her personal travails and the level of the world of Lyndon's politics, where a tangled webs of ambition, power struggles, fear, and treason all come together to create an ever shifting horizon of danger for the people of the story and of the country as a whole.

I have read this book twice, and I found it more interesting the second time because of its interesting if sad parallels to the world in which we find ourselves at the moment. Though the work was not originally intended to reflect this world and could not have foreseen it, it does give weight to the axiom that history repeats itself, even if it does so in fictional form.

Another element in this story that I enjoyed was the diversity of viewpoints that the characters reflected. Much of this is interpersonal as well as political and ecological, and it altogether makes for a satisfying and thought provoking read.

I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys fantasy, political fiction, stories that contain deep and varied characters, and of course, also to those of us who enjoy anthropomorphics. Indeed, in the latter field, this is one of the better rounded and more interesting reads I have come across.

A Fun Read
Tailles is a good read with an excellent cast of characters and an intriguing spin on the kingdom runaway story theme.
