Patrick the Wolf Boy is an interesting character. He looks almost like something you'd find in Peanuts with his reversed colors Charlie Brown shirt, shorts, and shoes, however; none of the Peanuts gang ever had fangs. (Except for Lucy when she'd get ticked off!) Although I'm unsure of Patrick's origin, that didn't detract from my enjoying this different comic. Patrick is like most boys, in that he wants to please the people around him. However, unlike most boys, he's got fangs, is more interested in chasing squirrels to eat them rather than just mess with them, and instead of bringing apples to teacher, he brings half eaten carcasses; but aside from all those differences, Patrick is just like most other little boys. Art Baltazar is known for his unique array of characters and situations. His previous work, Yahgz - The Craynobi Tales, was different in the sense that it seemed like a comic book version of two or three favorite childhood authors - Seuss, Dahl, and Disney - yet masterfully woven together by Baltazar. Patrick is a neat character. The comic reminds me almost of those sixties back up strips in Mad and other magazines that featured young lil' monster type characters. There's nothing scary about Patrick - well, except when he brought the teacher a live pig instead of an apple for a treat. She said something like, 'pigs weren't allowed in school.' Then, like any obedient child who doesn't want to break the rules, he ate it and just put its little piggie tail on her desk. That was a little disturbing, but, hey, the teacher wasn't phased at all and even said, 'thanks.' Wotta school! If you're in the market for something different, then check out Patrick the Wolf Boy! -- SEQUENTIAL TART | |||||||
