These theee mile diameter mega-buildings could support over 100 million people each in a nearly "closed" environment, thereby freeing the earth of the malignant growth of human exploitation. It was soon realized, however, that the complex and increasingly fragile systems which kept so many people alive could be easily disabled by any random breakdown or accident.
